New Songs Made With Jonner Primary Classes
Welcome to new writing from Johnshaven Primary.
Christine
and Ewan and Andy of Ceilidhmakers are working with Johnshaven Primary to
write songs and learn about Scottish music and old songs.
The
Johnshaven Primary songmaking project is funded by the Scottish Government’s
Youth Music Initiative through Creative Scotland. The YMI creates access to
high quality music-making opportunities, enables young people to achieve their
potential in or through music and supports the development of the sector for
the benefit of young people.
JOLLY JOHNNER ROWED HIS BOAT
Tune: Merry Matanzie
Jolly Jonner rowed his boat, out to sea he went to float
Jolly Jonner rowed his boat, out to catch a fish
Two oars he had to row, he couldn’t go fast, he had to go slow
Two oars he had to row, out to catch a fish
Jolly Jonner rowed his boat, out to sea he went to float
Jolly Jonner rowed his boat, out to catch a fish
Was it a salmon, was it a pike, was it an angelfish riding a bike?
Was it a salmon, was it a pike, underneath the waves
Jolly Jonner rowed his boat, out to sea he went to float
Jolly Jonner rowed his boat, out to catch a fish
A fishing rod with string and a hook, and all the time he was reading a book
A fishing rod with string and a hook, a book about catching a shark
Jolly Jonner rowed his boat, out to sea he went to float
Jolly Jonner rowed his boat, out to catch a fish

Johnshaven P4-7
WE SENT HER FOR CHEESE
We sent her for some cheese, oh aye oh aye
We sent her for some cheese, oh aye oh aye
We sent her for some cheese, and she fell and skint her knees
Oh the world must be comin tae an end, oh aye oh aye
We sent her for a toy – she fell on a little boy
We sent her for a chair – she pulled out her own hair
We sent her for a car – she went drinking in a bar
We sent her for a dog – she tripped upon a log
We sent her for a pig – and he wore a ginger wig [oink oink]
We sent her for some butter – and she milked a cow’s pink udder
OUT ON THE ROLLING SEA
Out on the rolling sea, blue and grey and green
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, these colours we have seen
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, each boat has a name
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, we see them comin hame
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, the mighty waves turn tough
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, fierce and rocky and rough
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, scary clouds form
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, there’s a thick black thunderstorm
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, they ken it’s no a game
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
Out on the rolling sea, that’s why they’re comin hame
Out on the rolling sea, let it roll
LOOK OUT FOR PRESSERS
Stop yer boat ye fisherman
Or I’ll sink ye in the sea
Ye maun come and be a warrior
Jine the King’s Navy
Look oot, there’s pressers aboot
They’re traivellin through the sea
They hae swords and clubs and violent minds
And they’re tryin to capture thee
They’ll pound and sink your boat
And they’ll droon you in the sea
If you dinnae gang alang wi them
Tae jine the King’s Navy
Ah can sclimb a tree
But ah couldna not sclimb a mast
It his nae branches I can haudd
And the boat is sailing fast
Yon muckle ships in the Navy
They cairry lots o guns
They micht gie me a musket
I wish that ah could run
Ah wunner gin ere ah’ll escape
Johnshaven’s hard tae reach
Ah wish that ah could swim awa
Back tae Johnner beach
Stop yer boat ye fisherman
Or I’ll sink ye in the sea
Ye maun come and be a warrior
Jine the King’s Navy

THE RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES RAP
And song- tune Wee bird can tae ma apron
If everyone has a right to feel safe
Keep yer hand and feet to yourself
If everyone has a right to be happy
Just be kind to one another
If everyone has a right to take part
Let them join in on your games
Rights and Responsibilities
Rights and Responsibilities
Rights and Responsibilities

If everyone has a right to success (acheive?)

If everyone needs to challenge themselves
Make mistakes, and that’s ok
If everyone has a right to be heard
Then listen to what they say
Rights and Responsibilities
Rights and Responsibilities

…….
If everyone has a right to resources
Then share them every day
If everyone should be treated fairly
Treat them kindly back
If everyone has to hear the truth
Them we should speak it too
Rights and Responsibilities
Rights and Responsibilities
Rights and Responsibilities
…….
If everyone has a right to feel
Their feelings should be respected.
WHO’S ON THE BUS?
I’ve travelled all around this world,
from shore to distant shore.
I’ve sampled every pleasure, I could not ask for more.
I’ve shared my deck with kings and queens, it didn’t impress me much
I’ve never seen the equal to the X7 coastal bus.
Yea, yea, yea, yea …
It cruises out from Perthshire where the sun sets on the Tay.
It gathers up the sleepy and takes them on their way.
There’s scientists and lawyers, there’re folks that shout and cuss
There’s every shade of human on the X7 coastal bus
Yea, yea, yea, yea …
I’ve seen the mighty QE2 haul massive loads on board.
I’ve been on double decker planes where cars are even stored
But you can bring your bike and kitchen sink, they never raise a fuss,
You could even bring your elephant on the X7 coastal bus.
Yea, yea …
Ricki likes to rap, Molls likes to play Meep City,
Kiki likes to knit, Babelle likes her horses.
Flash likes fancy unicorns, Lee Lee likes her art
Hans aye likes skating, Meams she likes Little Mix.
Lulu likes her dogs, Har Har plays football
Black Wolf he likes nature, Hay likes to draw.
Mac likes his football, Mimo likes to skip
Mimi likes to dance, Frank likes slime.
Viper lies
his skateboard, Flash likes flossing too,
We floss and floss and rainbow floss and you can do it too!!! Yea, yea
Someday this good old world will end, and we’ll reach our final stop,
We’ll look back on the journey and things we liked a lot.
I know that when my time comes, I’ll rise to beat the rush;
Lord take me up to heaven in an X7 coastal bus!
Yea, yea …
THE VALUES
SONG
Friends with caring honesty
Take responsibility
Have a laugh respectfully
Fun and creativity
Qua key quacking, Qua key quacking
Qua key quacking, sounds like Latin.
Ooooooh, Ooooooh

You can keep your fancy limousines and racy open cars
You might dine in hipster restaurants or ambient wine bars
For me there’s nothing finer; and it really is a must-
It’s the leather seats and wi-fi on the X7 coastal bus.
Yea, yea …
Some day this good old world will end, and we’ll reach our final stop,
We’ll look back on the journey and things we liked a lot.
I know that when my time comes, I’ll rise to beat the rush;

Bonnie Wee Johnner Hall
Tune (Bonnie wee Jeanie McCall)
Chorus
A fine wee room, a bonnie wee room, is bonnie wee Johnner ha’;
The finest place you’ll ever miss, an never find at a’.
I set out for this ceilidh, in December braw an cauld
It’s nae sae much a place tae go as a way of getting auld.
A
carle I met alang the way, was awfy, awfy shy,
He said that he’d been lookin too but coundna mind for why.
He’d tred up Fore and Castle street till his shoes were shilpit bare,
But he hadna hid a sicht of it and now he didna care.
Chorus
Noo there’s mony a place in Johnner
that is weel an fine tae be,
The Ship Hotel is couthie but a bitty sweir to see.
The museum’s right ahint you when you’re on the harbor wa’,
But trust me when you’re lookin, it isnae there at a’.
Chorus
You can speir folks where the schuil is or the bowling club sae fine
I’d tell you how tae get there but I dinnae hiv the time.
For naethins where you think it is, an getting there’s a fash,
Forbye the streets can change their names, it’s a waste of time tae ask.
